Wheel dancing was one of the rare occasions when young people met, got to know each other and socialized in the past. Linđo is the most popular dance of the Dubrovnik coast, which is located northwest of the city of Dubrovnik. It is danced to the accompaniment of the old South Dalmatian three-stringed instrument called lijerica. It is performed in couples around the player and the dance "commands” are given in humorous, often ambiguous verses shouted loudly by the wheel leader. Our ensemble was named after this dance. The name itself is actually the family nickname of a famous lijerica player from the past. Today we are proud to say that his great-great-grandson Mario plays the lijerica in the Linđo Folklore Ensemble.
